THE MYSTERY OF PERCEPTION
Human beings for countless centuries have had no reason to question how they perceived their world. The what they were “seeing” or perceiving was adequately told to them by their mentors.
Below is a graphic explaining how simple a human’s perception is believed to be in a human’s first reality.
 |
HP/SOS is explaining in its research why a human’s first reality makes the mistake of believing that perception is a result of one’s eyes “seeing” or “perceiving” the outside world as it is. This is an assumption that the image perceived is the same as the film of a camera that gives us a perfect replica of the world the camera is photographing.
It was not until late in the twentieth century that neurology informed us that humans do not see with their eyes, humans see with their brains.
Why should this make a difference?
It makes a difference because until a person is aware that “seeing” or perception is a process in their brain, they make the mistake of believing that the description of what they see is factual data about the object perceived, without having any reason for awareness that their so-called factual data is produced by their conditioned brain.
What do you mean by a conditioned brain?
The description of one’s world will be limited to the beliefs a person has accepted as his or her reality. They will believe that they are dealing with facts about the object being described, however, their so-called facts are actually their personal beliefs they have accepted as truth.
Many of their beliefs will have been accepted before they were born. Many more will be accepted long before they are capable of questioning what they are being told by the authorities in their lives.
This produces what HP/SOS calls a “knee jerk” reaction to one’s world as if their acceptances are actual replicas of their world rather than an exposure of what they currently believe.
This same problem of first reality beliefs applies to a human’s ignorance about his or her sense of sight. It is this same problem of a human’s beliefs, in first reality, that are unknown as habits because one “thinks” one is relating directly to their world.
This same ignorance carries over into what one believes is information about one’s world rather than information about what one believes. This level is where definitions of currently accepted beliefs control behavior which is the basis of most arguments.
It is this ignorance that has kept most humans “slaves” to both their secular and sacred authorities for countless centuries.
It is estimated that one’s beliefs are basically formulated by age seven, which means from seven on, one “fights” for a reality given to them by other people’s opinions.
Because one believes that one is dealing directly with his or her world s/he has no reason to question his or her beliefs, because s/he is unaware that it is his or her beliefs that are evaluating his or her “seeing” or perception. This first reality individual has no way of knowing an awesome potential is existing within his or her transcendent aspect until a paradigm shift opens his or her evaluation to a reflective capability informing them of how they have been relating to reality.
HP/SOS names this capability “location of comprehension”.
It is the beginning of a totally new world view, in which for the first time, a person is capable of relating to what was formerly believed to be, in first reality, factual reactions to their world rather than expressing a life in which conditioned habits in one’s brain are determining one’s behavior.
Below is a “Sam graphic” exposing how and why it is our brain that “sees” or perceives.

THE OBSERVER
Of primary importance in the study of any and all IDEAS is the role of the observerYOU and I perceiving the “observed”. Unless and until we have determined the means by which we comprehend reality, of whatever sort, there is the risk that we will continually mistake what we “see” as an authentic, genuine reality, rather than what it actually is: a collection of assumptions (metaphors) we ourselves verify using our currently held belief-system. If we alone verify reality, how can we be sure it is “in fact” the reality we assume it is?
This graphic is for an individual that is awakening to what we have named “Location of Comprehension (LOC)”. Until we realize the implications of this graphic, we are unaware of the most important aspect of consciousness. Who and what it is that we are actually observing. What establishes our current reality?
Understanding this graphic allows countless problematical areas to be explained. We never see the outside world directly because what we actually observe is the result of a process of evaluation that is given its meaning and feeling as a result of our self-image (current biases, prejudices, subjective opinions, and countless other influences that color and determine our current self-image).
After a person is capable of locating where and how s/he understands his/her reality, s/he is empowered for the first time to be a decision-maker as to how and what response s/he will give to his/her current experiences.
S/he is now aware that it is his/her own habits and not his/her past or an outside world that is determining his or her behavior.
This is the beginning of a second reality in which choice (free will) is rational for the first time. As long as habits rule one’s behavior, there is no self that is responsible for change.
It is this awakening to a second reality that explains why a person has struggle or limitation of any kind in his or her life.
It is this awakening of second reality that is the beginning of a life that now expresses creativity and joy rather than blame and limitation.
Second reality births a new person with a freedom unknown by first reality understanding, because first reality continues to believe that it is dealing directly with a world that is the cause of its feelings (responses) and circumstances.
This second reality person will find themselves discovering self-help systems (sacred and/or secular) that assist them in awakening their awesome pre-existing potentials. Second reality changes a person from being a follower of other peoples’ definitions (opinions) because this new person is now both responsible for continuing current conditioning and empowered to use some method to help them change or replace their current conditioning with new and exciting options.
The greatest change is a freedom to test and practice dreams that had not been rational in first reality.
Worship of outside authorities, sacred or secular, stops and is replaced with gratitude, love, joy and happiness as participation in “creating a new life” begins to be practiced.
Every belief is now open to change because beliefs are no longer facts. A human is now aware in an ever increasing scope that anything one can conceive one can achieve.
After one has spent some time expressing the fun of change, one will be ready for the next paradigm shift, questioning the following:
1.Where was change before I was motivated to accept it? 2.What is it that motivated me at this time to accept change? 3.How am I able to practice change if it is different from my current habits? 4.How does practicing change produce change in my world? 5.Isn’t it necessary for me to be connected to my world, when by changing my self-image my world corresponds to my change?
These are the type of questions that are the awakening of another paradigm shift which HP/SOS has named third reality.
Third reality explains first and second reality as steps in an awakening eternal being. It is opening consciously to the transcendent aspect of every human being.
It is now realized that there is a spiritual DNA that has been motivating one since before being conceived as a human being. The first two steps of first and second reality are paradigm shifts that happen as a human being realizes his or her divinity. Jesus was the great example not the great exception. Teachings of both East and West are now comprehendible as life becomes a process of eternal awakening and transformation.
“Seeing” and perception no longer relates to an outside world but relates to an evaluated world or virtual reality.
Dr. Ernest Holmes created a graphic in his 1926 textbook that helps us understand these three levels of paradigm shifts.

All struggle is replaced with experimentation of desired meanings and feelings as an infinite guidance is realized within each person.
A person enjoys uniqueness rather than “group mentality”.
A person after second reality is a decision-maker rather than a follower. Language is realized as validation of the particular level one is currently practicing.
Probably the greatest benefit is the freedom that one now experiences in a life that is responsible for one’s own conditioning. This results in an ever increasing empowerment as dreams are actualized.
A new human being is eternally happening.
